A FORMER Batley couple have been charged in connection with the death of a Huddersfield toddler.
Subhan Anwar, 21, was arrested along with his partner Zahbeena Navsarka, 19, the mother of two-year-old Sanam, who died after paramedics were called to her home.
They received a call saying that Sanam was lifeless, and they found she had suffered multiple fractures to her legs and arms. She was pronounced dead at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary. The cause of her death is yet to be established.
Anwar lived in Batley and Dewsbury before moving to Riddings Road, Huddersfield, with Navsarka, and was a former pupil of Batley Grammar School.
Navsarka lived at Howley Walk before moving to Huddersfield last month.
The couple were both charged with grievous bodily harm with intent along with a separate charge of child neglect. Anwar and Navsarka appeared before Huddersfield Magistrates on Monday.
They were remanded in custody to appear before Bradford Crown Court on Monday for a plea and directions hearing.
