I READ the letter about the town centre from the unnamed correspondent last week (The Reporter Rostrum – Good Luck Dewsbury – you really need it).
Much of it was very much to the point.

In fact I complained about some things to the town centre manager and there was no reply, and no change.

This after we were assured that by-laws on overflow trading were being enforced in Bradford and we would follow suit.

As in the case of doctoring, the first step is to find out, or isolate, what is wrong so it is not just a case of kicking the town when it is down.

Yes, Dewsburians can and must pay their part, but I don’t think it’s asking too much to expect some leadership from police, councillors and unelected officials.

This town has been allowed to deteriorate for far too long.

The tragedy is that the bare bones of a lovely little town are still here.

The majestic buildings, the cosy little centre, lovely scenery all around, the convenient links, the flowering arts scene, the river.

Perhaps a town meeting of all leading players could focus and co-ordinate a much needed recovery.
