Obituary: Tributes for Staincliffe care worker
A WELL-known and muc-respected care worker has died.
Mrs Christine Brown died after a short stay in Dewsbury and District Hospital on May 1, aged 60.
Christine had a debilitating illness, which, with typical fortitude, did not stop her working until going into hospital because she was so committed to supporting her clients.
She was the longest serving employee of SureCare West Yorkshire, based in Staincliffe.
She joined the company in August 2002, and was rapidly promoted to senior carer because of her skills, reliability and respect for the dignity of those she considered less fortunate than herself.
Popular with both colleagues and her clients, or "my lovely ladies and gentlemen" as she called them, she was also the life and soul of SureCare social events.
Wendy Burrows, manager of a Kirklees team that supports people discharged from hospital, regularly contracted to use Christine.
She said: "Christine was reliable and trustworthy, always cheerful and bright with all service users and families and staff members. She was well-liked by all colleagues and services users and will be sadly missed.
"An amazing lady, a credit to SureCare, a role model."
Service users have also given tributes – Mary Ashton and Margaret Gosling are typical.
Mary said: "Lovely lady, always respectful to my care needs, always had time for me. No task two big or small, I will miss her dearly."
Margaret said: "Marvellous lady always courteous, generous, always had time. The best care worker. She will be sadly missed."
