THERE was no change in Batley and Birstall as councillors Shabir Pandor, Hanif Mayet and Andrew Palfreeman all kept their seats.

Second was Conservative Kelly McKeown with 1,451 votes and third BNP candidate Ian Roper with 771.

Lib Dem Allan Bentley got 421 votes and Green's Julian Flynn got 175.

The turn out was 41.9 per cent.

In Batley East, Labour councillor Mayet got more votes than all the other canidates put together.

Coun Mayet got 3,060 votes; Conservative Nadeem Hussain 823; BNP candidate Mary Ioannou 759; Lib Dem Irfan Iqbal 653; and Green Brenda Smithson 296.

Turn out was 45.8 per cent.

In Birstall and Birkenshaw, Tory Coun Palfreeman polled 2,536 votes which was almost three times the number of votes gained by his closest rival, Labour's Amanda Stubley, with 850.

BNP candidate John Wilkinson came third with 728 votes, while Liberal Democrat Jon Bloom got 291 and the Green party's Clive Lord got 226.

Kirklees is still a hung council - the Conservatives now have 22 seats, Labour 21, Lib Dems 19, Greens 4, BNP 2 and Save Huddersfield NHS 1.

Only four seats changed hands - Heckmondwike went from BNP to Labour; Conservatives gained Holme Valley North and Denby Dale; and the Lib Dems gained Dalton.
